About

There can be few treatments in medicine that have been as much lied about as electroconvulsive therapy (ECT), whether it is in government statistics, newspaper articles or the academic literature. This blog is an attempt to present some more accurate figures and facts about ECT.

Found you via Google news alerts beta.

I have requested Google to send me daily searches for electroconvulsive therapy. I think ECT should be banned. At the moment I am trying to find out statistics from my local NHS Trust. I am also trying to get the ECT information leaflet rewritten to show the negative aspects plus I am trying to get the consent form standardised – at present the doctor or nurse fills in/or not the negatives by hand.

    Hi,
I am doing some academic research into ECT. You are obviously very passionate about the subject and I was wondering whether you would be willing to discuss it and some of your findings with me?

    • I am afraid I am too busy. But if you have a specific question about ECT statistics why not ask it here? I just may have an answer, or be able to make a suggestion as to where you might find one. And, of course, if you wish to comment on anything I have posted here you are welcome.

I don’t see your email address here, so I’m posting this. There is Bill 5298 in Connecticut, currently under discussion by the Public Health Committee. My article hyperlinked below tells how to submit written testimony. Please let people know.

  4. Do you have a mailing list I can be added to?

  5. Sue says:

Hi who ever you are. I am on a mission to bring changes about ECT in the UK. I need as many UK ECT survivors to contact me ASAP. My MP is involved .
    Are you interested?

    Thank you for this site!

  7. The BBC is looking for people to do a doc on the harm ECT dose contact below
Still looking for ECT survivors to take part in a documentary. London venue preferred. Two survivors on board so far. If you or a friend are interested please contact darrenpaultreacy@gmail.com
A SKYPE typed documentary could be an option further, later on. Perhaps you might want to try and do this, look into it etc. An international/universal truth format is attractive.

and or you could join one of the several closed groups on face book for support like
    surviving electroshock global support group

  8. I found your site impressive and well-written. I was particularly interested in your post on The Burden Neurological Institute. (I was a neurological house officer at nearby Frenchay.) I also worked as a resident student at Barrow Hospital, a psychiatric facility just south of Bristol. I have written a short story about that time. http://www.davidwheldon.co.uk/barrow-hospital.pdf An eyewitness account of ECT and its indications are given on page 21.

    Best wishes,

    David
